MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday lauded “ordinary” Filipinos for the extraordinary roles they play in nation building.
In his message on National Heroes Day, Marcos hailed the “constant and unrelenting endeavor” of modern-day heroes in their tireless efforts to help steer the country to a better future.
“Today, we join the entire country in honoring the lives of exemplary Filipinos and Filipinas who selflessly offered themselves for the good of our nation. Guided by conviction that arises from a deep love for country, they ventured into the fires of struggle through which their heroic legacy and the destiny of our nation were forged. Their sacrifice becomes the act through which the soul affirms its highest calling and the nation discovers its moral shape,” he said.
“Among the enduring truths to be drawn from their stories is that nation-building is a constant and unrelenting endeavor, and that heroes and heroines are needed throughout the life of a country,” he added.

Such heroism, he noted, are best exemplified by “our farmers, fisherfolk, workers, teachers, soldiers, law enforcers, scientists, and countless ordinary men and women who, in extraordinary ways, fulfill their duties.

“On this occasion, we extend our deepest gratitude and highest regard,” the President said. “As we continue on our journey of nationhood, let us emulate their examples by manifesting our patriotism through acts of genuine service to our people. Through simple but meaningful acts of compassion to our brothers and sisters, we can be our generation's heroes, bringing forth the Bagong Pilipinas we aspire.”
Marcos will mark the holiday by leading the commemorative program at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.
Joining him are Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner, National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chairman Regalado Trota Jose Jr., Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, and other government officials.
